Bolton Residence (2014)

The Bolton Residence is a 1-storey elevated concrete home on the ocean front.  The client came to us to discuss adding a new master suite on top of the existing structure along with a roof deck.  The limited size of the existing floor plan and complications with the existing structure required the addition of a stair tower to one side, which created the opportunity for introducing a composition of strong horizontal and vertical massing, tying together old and new.  The master suite is a study in open plan - an office and sitting space act as an ante room that flows to the bedroom.  More private spaces are accessed toward the street, leaving the ocean view as uninterrupted as possible.

I was involved in the project from initial client introduction through completion of schematic design phase; working in a collaborative process with Mike Bier & the client to develop a program & design to suit the client's needs, including review and analysis of the existing structure with a structural engineer.
