RENOVATIONS (2019 - 2020)

Beginning in June, 2019 I worked with Harding Partners on several renovation projects at a variety of scales.

Corliss & Noble Butler High School

As part of a Joint Venture, Harding Partners was responsible for renovation and CA services on this 1960’s SOM building. This renovation involved a full replacement of the roof, replacement of the major mechanical systems, and interior and exterior improvements. To achieve this, we coordinated closely with CPS, the PBC, and the General Contractor to manage a short but intense work schedule on a limited budget.

Alfreda Barnett Duster Apartments

The Duster Apartment building is a 14-storey low-income CHA housing project for seniors, originally built in the 1960’s by Nicol and Nicol. Though well-maintained over the years, the building was due for some major renovations. Harding Partners worked as part of a Joint Venture for the CHA on a series of major and minor upgrades to the building. This renovation included rebuilding the roof, adding both a new Makeup Air Unit and new forced-air HVAC units for the apartments, as well as general renovations and maintenance to the interior and exterior.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Lloyd Lewis House

Built in 1939 as part of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian collection, the Lloyd Lewis house is a single-family home in Libertyville, IL adjacent to the Des Plaines river. Though loved for many decades, the house is not currently occupied full time and is in need of general renovations and maintenance. These repairs include replacing the roof, increasing energy efficiency, and repairing much of the original masonry. Harding Partners also worked with the client to study the potential of modernizing the building, including the installation of a central HVAC system. It is a difficult but rewarding challenge to work with such a beautiful building and to balancing the need for significant changes with a minimum impact on the original design.
