SAYRE HOUSE - PRAIRIE STYLE ADDITION (2021)

This addition to a house on Sayre Avenue in Chicago seeks to expand the living space in a faithful manner to a Prairie-Style home designed by Architect E. E. Roberts, a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright. The goal of the addition was to provide a new master bedroom suite (replacing an existing suite in the basement) and a new primary living space that extended the home while maintaining the original unique character of the space. Additionally, one of the existing main floor bedrooms was converted to an art studio with skylights and connected loft storage in the attic space.

We worked closely with the client on developing a layout that balanced their needs for comfort and entertaining along with re-developing the vertical circulation to the basement as a joining space. After the stair, the centerpiece of the new living space is a new fireplace and a refurbished cabinet from the original home construction in oak and stained glass. Finally, an upper and lower rear deck serve as a connection to the rear yard where the homeowners will develop their future gardens.

This project is currently in the Construction Document phase with an expected construction in the summer of 2023.
